Iyengar Yoga: Basics and More
Iyengar yoga is named for B.K.S. Iyengar, the world-reknowed yogi, who brought his methodology for yoga to the west in the 1960's. Iyengar, now in his 80's, has influenced hundreds of thousands of students world-wide through his Institute in Pune, India and his written works. Iyengar's classic “Light On Yoga,” first published in English in 1966, has served as the foundation for yoga instruction for over 40 years.

Iyengar yoga is characterized by precise postural alignment of each yoga posture. Props, such as blankets, blocks, and straps are used to assist the student to achieve and maintain proper alignment in a pose. The Iyengar teaching methodology is a solid foundation upon which to build better physical, mental and emotional health and to pursue higher spiritual goals.

Workshop Objectives:
1. Introduce Iyengar style yoga principles: precise postural alignment assisted by props if necessary; an instruction sequence that ensures proper execution of the postures; a teaching process of demonstration, observation and correction of yoga postures.
2. Practice yoga postures that are frequently emphasized in Iyengar style yoga, particularly inversions.
At the end of this workshop participants should expect to:
1. understand the difference between Iyengar and other styles of yoga as taught in the West;
2. have practiced Iyengar style postures, utilizing props if needed, and experienced Iyengar teaching methodology including the correction process.

To ensure personal attention, the class size is limited to ten people. Please register early to reserve your space in this workshop.
If you have a mat and props, you may bring them. If not, items you need will be available for your use during the workshop.
Cost: $25
